I am proficient in speaking, reading, and writing Chinese. My strengths are in simultaneous translation and connecting with people. I provide ease of listening and understanding to native English speakers (Chinese to English), and greater depth of content to Chinese speakers (English to Chinese). In the past 5 years I have translated a range of topics, including medical visits to hospitals and Chinese herbalists, business meetings, art and culture events, and training courses in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the US. A huge fan of yoga and Pilates, when I’m not translating one of these trainings I may very well be in one!

Escorted the client to the meeting, provided suggestions on how to follow local customs, and interpreted his meetings. The client was able to connect with new business partners and sample new products. He commented that was glad to have a native English speaker help navigate the country and language, and felt the translation was delivered well and would employ my services again.

Provided English to Chinese translation (6 hours per day) for the Gyrotonic Method® pre-training, training, and supervised hours modules (each module lasts approximately 6 days). Gyrotonic® is comprehensive training method using both mat work and custom-built equipment to create stabilization, mobilization and articulation of the body. It requires specialized vocabulary, and wide range of imagery cues to facilitate movement, which I delivered in a timely manner. Visiting trainers have remarked that my translation is smooth and non-disruptive and that I accurately conveyed their energy throughout the course.

Planned and led a 3-week tour of California and the Southwestern United States for a Chinese client and her family (three adults and an 11-year-old), which included arranging accommodation, transport, a sight-seeing itinerary, and business meetings with potential collaborators in their industry.
The client and her family were extremely pleased with the ease of communication and the care taken to make sure they had a pleasant trip. They commented that having an American facilitate their meetings made the process much smoother and set their potential collaborators at ease.

Location: Yogic Chanting Workshop (Shenzhen, China.
Translated a two-day chanting and healing workshop for yogis and music enthusiasts in Southern China. Content included discussion of yogic chanting concepts and terminology such as Naad, Gurmukhi, and others. The instructor felt at ease at having me act as her voice and was very pleased with my confidence and professionalism.

Client: Dr. Weilin Fang, Nanjing University

Worked closely with Dr. Fang to translate his poetry for the 23rd World Congress of Poets poetry competition. This required an in-depth understanding of the language and the inspiration behind the client’s poems. He was awarded 1st place in the poetry competition. I also re-translated and edited his chapter in Love in the World Religions, as well as other research papers and proposals. Dr. Fang has actively sought me out for other literary and scholarly translations.
